TRIBES OF KALAHANDI
DONGARIA KONDHA :-
The Dongria kondh is a primitive subgroup of kondhs. They are particularly vulnerable tribal group residing mostly in Trilochanpur gram panchayat under Lanjigarh Block of Kalahandi. The economy and livelihood of Dongria kondh is dependent on collection of NTFP and podu cultivation. They are traditionally horticulturists. They are distinguished from other groups so far as their expertise in horticulture, separate kuvi language, colourful dress and lifestyle. The villages are located in hill slopes and valleys. They were resorting to Maria practice in pre-independence era but this practice is no more prevalent. Now a day it is practiced in alternative shape of buffalo sacrifice. They are nature worshippers. The practice of youth dormitory are though gradually losing its importance but still prevalent among Dongria villages. They have strong social network and organization. The family is mostly nuclear, monogamous, and patriarchal in character. The socio-economic bondage is very strong and role of women is unique in the socio-economic frame. Dongria men and women are fashionable and fond of beautifying themselves with varieties of traditional ornaments. The family and social life is very peaceful having mutual respect. They are continuing to stay in isolation, however gradually the impacts of changes are visible in their life due to intervention of government agencies. ecent decade with the intervention of Government.
