TRIBES OF KALAHANDI
DESIA KONDH :-
The Desia kondh reside in all the thirteen blocks of the district but numerically high in number in Narla, Bhawanipatna, Kesinga, M. Rampur, Karlamunda and Golamunda blocks. They remain in plain and their main livelihood is agriculture and allied sector. The dialect they speak is Kandhan. They are fond of dancing and singing to the tune of Dhap. They express proudness that once they were father- in- law of the king. In the bygone era the King of Kalahandi was marrying the daughter of the Pat-majhi sitting in his lap. Kondh’s had bigger role in the administration of the state. The kondh leaders were umrahs who had dominating role in the administration of the respective Desh consisting of some villages.
