TRIBES OF BALANGIR
KANDHA :-
Kandhas is the largest tribe of the state in terms of population. These groups of tribes found mostly in Titilagarh, Saintala, Bangomunda, Muribahal, Gudvella, Turekela and Deogaon blocks of Balangir District. They are traditionally spoken ‘Kandharia’ language but now mostly ‘Odia ‘is spoken. While both men and women folks are scantily dressed, the women folks can be found with jewelry made out of silver and brass and sometimes gold. They mostly landless earn their livelihood by working as daily wage laborers. Many of them also depend on collection of minor forest produce from Jungle/Forest. They eat rice,, ford,mango kernel,fruits,edible roots,curry,oil of mahula,fish,meat etc.
